The Girl in the Picture

I’m not the girl in the picture

whose photo’s in your hand,

she’s a sight surreal,

a photo of still,

of this, I hope you understand.

A pose, a click, – a selfie chick,

A moment for you to see,

An image framed,

a blink in time,

Of that girl who mirrors me.

A photo is just a picture,

A single word in a line,

The beginning to a story

Which ends in

“once upon a time.”

I’m not the girl in the picture,

I’m the girl whose soul you’d see

Window framed by these eyes of mine

Of God’s creation that is me.

To have me and to hold me,

In your hands and in your heart –

Yet to leave me there,

Framed in square,

Leaves us standing, set apart.

I’m not the girl in the picture,

frozen in one dimension,

I’m the girl behind the picture,

Waiting with hearts intention.
